About Us

Kaiapoi Preschool is a privately owned Preschool that has operated in Kaiapoi community since 1986, providing excellent childcare and education.

Initially the centre only opened for 3 mornings per week in the rear hall of the Kaiapoi Community Centre, Charles Street which then became the Riverside Centre before being demolished in 2011 after earthquake damage. The demand for quality early childhood education and childcare increased over the ensuing years and the Preschool has expanded to meet these needs.

In 1999 the Preschool moved to our current location at 8 Tunas Street.

The Preschool now operates from 8am - 4pm, Monday to Friday for 48 weeks of the year (closed for 4 weeks over the Christmas period).

We are licenced for 20 children aged 2-6 years.

Our qualified teachers and other experienced educators are committed to quality interactions with the children and we consistently maintain a higher ratio of staff to children than required by regulation.

Our Philosophy At Kaiapoi Preschool.

  • We believe strong relationships are the catalyst for developing trust and respect, and are therefore paramount for building social competence.

  • We are committed to sustaining a curriculum that expands children’s horizons and supports them to become competent, independent learners.

  • We believe children grow holistically, and through a safe, caring and engaging environment, develop a sense of well-being and belonging, thus empowering them to become life long learners who can participate and contribute as individuals.

  • We promote an inclusive environment that values tikanga and respects family/whanau aspirations for their children, acknowledging them as partners in our learning community.
